木桿長度極大化的風潮開始/The maximum driver length！~上集

最近Dechambeau 測試了48“的木桿，也的到更好的結果。這是在室內的測試結果，還沒有看到室外或比賽他真正的用48”的木桿。但因為這樣的做法，目前在PGA裡也開始讓一些球星們考慮使用長木桿的策略。因為今年疫情的關係，Master/名人賽要在11月舉辦，所以一些球星們已經開始摩拳擦掌。

對老將米克森/Mickelson來說，他就打算用47.5“的木桿來打。原因很簡單，就是要“距離”。他說到；在奧古斯塔球場，很多洞的設計，球道的沙坑都需要飛過至少要320碼。過了沙坑或一些障礙後就一帆風順。至少在攻果嶺上就有優勢。這點從看deChambeau的PGA錦標賽就很清楚。

所以奧古斯塔球場的球道距離和障礙的設計也是基於選手的平均距離來考量。因為能開過320碼的距離也是不多，而對多數的選手距離來說，就是要求要準度的開球。現在如果要越過障礙的話，只有距離提升。而距離提升除了人本身的提升，還要球桿提升。這部分來說，把球桿加長就是一個最簡單和容易的方法。

但木桿長度加長就柳暗花明嗎？沒有！問題在控制球桿的能力變得更困難。大家都打過不同長度的球桿，所以可以瞭解，長度對球友使用上的難度和挑戰。對選手也是一樣。尤其要把長的球桿用到可以上場廝殺拼搏的程度，這是需要一定的時間去磨練。可不是臨時起意要試身手的做法。

另一個球星Adam Scott也在這週的Huston Open/休士頓公開賽裡也開始所以46“的木桿。其目的也是司馬昭之心路人皆知。也是在為接下來的Master做準備和測試磨合。我覺得這個木桿長度不是今年才有。其實大家都知道長度是兩面刃。距離和準度這兩個因素去做平衡。但看到Dechambeau的例子後，讓其他選手有想提升距離的動機。

Lately Dechambeau has been trying new 48" driver and gets good results. Of course it's in indoor result and we haven't seen him to play such driver in tournament. However, with such movement, other PGA golfers are thinking to challenge longer driver for gaining the distance for this month's Master champion.

Michelson is thinking to play longer length driver and now he is playing 47.5" driver. He said it's simple, distance is key! Augusta is not an easy golf course, for most of holes, you need to flight over 320 yards for avoiding the bunkers. This is the advantage for having long distance tee shot and that's why he is trying to play longer length driver.

DeChambeau's case, it's obvious! if you want to gain more distance, you have to gain the weight and increase your muscle. Or you have to have the golf clubs to help you. Making the golf club longer is the way to get more distance and that's why these professional golfers are thinking and doing now.

But it's not just adding length longer to gain the distance. When you the driver length becomes longer than you used to play, it increases the difficulty and accuracy for controlling the driver. In most of cases, your driving on the fairway ratio may be lower than 50%. I would say it takes time to build the ability to handle the driver.

The other PGA pro Adam Scott is using 46" driver in this week's Huston open. We know he is trying to gain the distance for playing such driver. Distance does matter when you play PGA tournament and pros know DeChambeau gains the distance and others are trying to copy what he has been doing. I would say we will see more pros are playing longer length driver in 2021.
